- Prioritizing Safety and Minimizing Environmental Impact, Approximately 2-Year Demolition Project Planned

- Visible Facilities to be Installed Starting April, Main Structure Demolition to Begin in Mid-June

Hyundai Development Company has initiated the demolition work for the A1 site (Gwangju Hwajeong I-Park).

The A1 Task Force of Hyundai Development Company announced that it has started the demolition work, as administrative procedures, including permits and work stoppage release, have been completed for the A1 site (Gwangju Hwajeong I-Park) demolition project. Following the stabilization work for Building 201, completed on January 16th, Hyundai Development Company has been working on administrative procedures such as obtaining permits for the demolition plan, safety management plan, and hazardous risk prevention plan for approximately two months. Hyundai Development Company has thoroughly reviewed and improved its plans in collaboration with relevant authorities, including Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Office, to ensure the safe progress of the demolition project.

This demolition project plan is unprecedented as it involves the demolition of a high-rise building that was nearing completion. Given the urban location of the site, the focus is on preventing safety accidents and minimizing environmental damage. The demolition work is scheduled to take approximately two years and is expected to be completed in the first half of 2025.

Hyundai Development Company will begin preparatory work for the structural demolition work. This preparatory work includes the installation of visible facilities such as system scaffolding, RCS (Rail Climbing System), tower cranes, and hoist cars, as well as the dismantling of interior finishes. After about 2-3 months of preparation, the main structural demolition work is set to commence in mid-June.

Before starting the demolition work, the A1 Task Force held a technical advisory panel meeting at the Hyundai Development Company headquarters on March 29th. At the meeting, members of the technical advisory panel, including Professor Choi Chang-sik of Hanyang University as the chairman and the A1 Task Force head, as well as other members of the A1 Task Force and company officials, participated. During the meeting, the A1 Task Force presented its demolition plan, and the technical advisory panel provided input on various management strategies related to structure, safety, and the environment.

To ensure reliability through pre-evaluation of construction, structure, and safety risks and to enhance trust through collaboration with external experts, the A1 Task Force has been operating the technical advisory panel since November of last year. The technical advisory panel is composed of leading domestic and international experts in structural engineering, including Chairman Ko Chang-woo and Vice Chairman Oh Bong-hwan of the Architectural Institute of Korea, as well as LERA's CEO Jang Seok-kwon. The panel will continue to operate until the completion of the demolition work.

A1 Task Force Head Ho Myeong-gi stated, "Through consultation with domestic and international experts, we have conducted reviews and improvements in the areas of structure and safety. While the permit process for the demolition plan took some time, we have prepared thoroughly. As a result, we will proceed with the demolition work as planned, ensuring safety and restoring trust by communicating with local stakeholders."

The A1 Task Force, established earlier this year, is responsible for the demolition and rebuilding of the A1 site (Gwangju Hwajeong I-Park). The letter 'A' in the A1 Task Force represents the first letter of the alphabet, signifying Hyundai Development Company's dedication to concentrating all efforts on regaining trust as a top priority and also contains the meaning of 'Again.'
