HDC Hyundai Development Company (Dae Cheol Kim, CEO) and the Vietnamese Ministry of Transport held the opening ceremony of the “Hung Ha Bridge Construction Project” on January 26 (local time), 2019, in Hung Yen, Vietnam.

The opening ceremony was successfully held while more than 400 guests including Nguyen Xuan Phuc (Prime Minister), Nguyen Van The (Minister of Transport), Do Tien Sy (Secretary General of Hung Yen Province), Nguyen Dinh Khang (Secretary General of Ha Nam Province), Dae Cheol Kim (CEO, HDC Hyundai Development Company), and Do Hyeon Kim (Korean Ambassador, Korean Embassy in Vietnam).

 

At the ceremony, Dae Cheol Kim, CEO of HDC Hyundai Development Company, said, “The Hung Ha Bridge connects Hung Yen Province and Ha Nam Province, which will be a new growth axis for the northern Vietnamese economy by linking Hanoi, Haiphong, and Ninh Binh regions” and “I would like to thank the Vietnamese government, officials, staffs, and employees for their hard work during the construction of Hung Ha Bridge.”

 

“Hung Ha Bridge Construction Project” was requested by Project Management Unit No.1 (PMU1) affiliated to the Ministry of Transport of Vietnam. This bridge connects Hung Yen Province and Ha Nam Province across the Red River of Vietnam. The total length of the bridge is 6.2km (2.1km for bridges and 4.1km for road extension). The total construction cost for the four-lane bridge is approximately 85 million USD (approximately 92.7 billion KRW). The South Korean government provided 117 million USD out of the total project cost of 136 million USD as an EDCF loan through the Export-Import Bank of Korea.

 

The construction of the Hung Ha Bridge began in May 2016 and opened on January 26, 2016. The construction was completed five months ahead of schedule owing to flexible process management considering the climate and topography of the region. Free Cantilever Method (FCM), constructing the upper slab for the upper portion of a bridge using mobile work vehicles, was applied.

 

HDC Hyundai Development Company has won orders and secured competitiveness in the overseas construction market. For example, it has won major projects one after another starting from the BSMMU University Hospital in Bangladesh in May 2018, the Mumbai Coastal Road project in India in September 2018, and the Gore-Tepi Road Construction Project in Ethiopia, December 2018. As it successfully completed the Hung Ha Bridge Project, the company plans to expand its investment and development businesses in the infrastructure, housing, and construction sectors in the Vietnamese construction market.
