After a ribbon cutting, a luncheon was held to discuss how to provide support for the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games and develop Park Roche into a world class wellness resort.
Park Roche was designed by Chun Soo Ryu, known to be Korea’s representative architect, who heads IGONG Architects & Engineers. Architect Chun Soo Ryu is famous for designing the Seoul Olympic Gymnastics Arena, Seoul World Cup Stadium, and The Ritz-Carlton. Symbolizing the physical aspects of Mt. Gariwang and the shape of wings, the structural design for this project is characterized by maximal acquisition of the beautiful scenery of Odaecheon and Mt. Duta, focusing on natural harmony with the surroundings.
Park Roche has infused life into each and every corner of the resort in collaboration with Richard Woods, a world-renowned artist from the U.K. Richard Woods is famous for revitalizing buildings and spaces with diverse patterns inspired from traditional patterns and natural motifs. Park Roche expresses both the nature of Jeongseon (featuring mountains, white birch trees, leaves, rocks and stones) and a journey to Jeongseon through delicate, sensible colors and patterns.
HDC has put a unique spatial philosophy into practice through IPARK in Park Roche as well. In an effort to create a quality wellness resort, the company has raised the degree of perfection in collaboration with diverse experts in yoga, meditation, psychiatry, architecture and hotels throughout various stages ranging from early planning to designing.
Park Roche Resort & Wellness Center offers the perfect space for physically and mentally tired contemporary people to rest, reflect and recreate themselves by escaping from daily routine. The healthy air in Sugam-ri, forest paths embracing transparent sunlight, valleys with clean water flowing between rocks, and the summit commanding the East Sea over folded mountains all contribute to an outstanding healing place where one can experience revitalizing energy.
Park Roche helps arouse healthy energy by pursuing “Body Full,” “Mind Full,” and “Spirit Full” themes. “Body Full” is filled with good lifestyle habits such as revitalizing, healthy exercise, yoga, a spa visit, leisure sports, seasonal foods made with fresh ingredients, wellbeing cuisine arousing the palate, better sleep, a special method of breathing, diet, and healthcare. “Mind Full” refers to culture, music, art programs, enthusiasm, fun, rewarding learning focused on a sense of achievement, experiences, and creative activities that one can enjoy along with nature. “Spirit Full” is experienced through self-reflection, inspiring programs aimed to echo a certain sentiment, stress relief, soul-searching meditation, contemplation, and forest healing.
In particular, Sugam Lab provides specialized advice on measuring personal body pressure for sound sleep, consulting on spinal cord care and the optimal height of a pillow in collaboration with Ace Bed Sleeping R&D Institute. In addition, all rooms have been furnished with mattresses developed in collaboration with Ace Bed to help guests get a good sleep.
The name Park Roche combines the identity of the IPARK brand with the word “roche,” meaning “rock” in French. The place name Sugam originates from an old story where King Gal of Maek, a small ancient country based in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, took shelter from a tiring war and stayed under a large rock to sleep. The name Park Roche is a reference to the large rock, Sugam, that embraced the fatigued wanderer.
