- Certificates of academic scholarship and academic support presented to 32 domestic and international students, two doctors of humanities

- Pushing ahead with various businesses guided by the focus on talent and spirit of challenge in the philosophy of Se Young Chung, the former honorary president

The Pony Chung Foundation (Chairman, Chul-su Kim) held the ceremony to present certificates of academic scholarship and support on December 22.

The event was held at IPARK Tower in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Approximately 100 people attended the event, including those involved in the foundation, Chul-su Kim, the chairman of the foundation, Mong Gyu Chung, the chairman of Hyundai Development Company, and academic scholarship holders.

The Pony Chung Foundation has been supporting scholarship students at home and abroad every year since 2006. This year, 30 domestic college students, including Won Gyu Yoon of Hanyang University, were appointed as the 11th group of scholarship holders. In addition to receiving a one-year tuition grant, the scholarship holders are given various opportunities to participate in field surveys, workshops, mentoring sessions, and overseas academic field trips.

The Pony Chung Foundation, actively pushing ahead with the scholarship scheme in South Korea as well as Vietnam, presented two Vietnamese students with certificates of scholarship for invited students.

The scholarship scheme for invited students is to select the students with excellent academic records among Vietnamese scholarship holders in order to provide them with support for two years of educational expenses for graduate programs in South Korea; the scholarship supports round-trip airfare, living expenses, tuition, printing expenses for dissertation, and so on. In addition, the foundation launched a new scheme to offer Vietnamese undergraduate students who major in Korean Language and Culture a chance to study for one year at Korea University in South Korea.

Furthermore, the foundation gave certificates of scholarship to two selected researchers; for this year, the two research subjects selected were Focus on the Buddhist logic of Ah Raksha Ah Whangttandal: concepts of Tibetan Buddhist logic and their religious justification by Dr. Seok Hyo Cho and Focus on peace and healing in eastern Asia, in the place of oppression and pain: study on the role of Seodaemun Prison in the past, present, and future by Dr. Hyun kyeong Lee

The Pony Chung Foundation has been supporting the fundamental discipline of humanities since 2007, in keeping with the wish of Se Young Chung, late honorary chairman, to provide a solid foundation for competitiveness. The academic scholarship scheme is to provide total funding of 50 million KRW to the scholars who attain a doctoral degree within five years as a one-year research fund and support fund for publication.

Chul-su Kim, the chairman of the foundation, stated I believe that the scholarship holders and researchers will take a leading role in the future of Korea and the Pony Chung Foundation will guide these talented individuals towards their dream.

In 2005, the Pony Chung Foundation was established to preserve the focus on talent and spirit of challenge in the philosophy of Se Young Chung, the late honorary chairman.

Since then, it has been selecting innovative individuals and groups for the innovation award along with scholarship schemes for students at home and abroad.

The assets of the foundation have increased to 44 billion KRW, allowing for smooth operation of the scholarship schemes. Last November, a celebration was held at Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City for the 10th anniversary of providing academic support to Vietnamese students. The foundation is planning to push ahead with various projects for talented individuals who will contribute to developing the society and the nation through challenge and innovation.
